1099 State filings

Introduction for 1099 State Filing:

Depending on the state, filers may need to submit their 1099 Series Forms to their applicable state, along with any additional information. Each state has individual filing requirements and deadlines. For example: In Georgia, you must file Forms 1099-MISC, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, and 1099-R directly with the state. However, for those reporting in Nebraska, 1099 Forms should only be submitted if there were state withholdings. Furthermore, those living in Alaska, District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming are not required to file state 1099 Forms.

Combined Federal/State Filing (CF/SF) program

The Combined Federal/State Filing Program (CF/SF) is an agreement made by the IRS to share information returns with participating states. This program allows the Internal Revenue Service: Information Returns Branch (IRS/IRB) to forward 1099 Series Forms to the respective states automatically with no additional charge. However, some select states within the program still require individuals to file with the state.

Unsure if your state is a part of the CF/SF or if you need additional filing forms? Presently, 36 states require 1099 Form reporting for a variety of non-payroll compensation and miscellaneous income. If you are unsure of your filing requirements, it is essential to check with your individual state's Department of Revenue for clarification. Currently, ExpressTaxFilings can only support filing for states that participate in the CF/SF.
