State Filings for 1099 Forms

State Filings for 1099 Forms

Your Federal Filing of Forms 1099 to the IRS would become complete only with your specific State Filings. Depending on the State you are filing, the specific requirements for State Filings may vary.

Combined Federal/State Filing (CF/SF) Program

For most of the States, State Filing gets automatically done through the Combined Federal/State Filing (CF/SF) Program initiated by the IRS. States participating in the Program are shared with the information submitted through 1099 Forms by the IRS. Currently, ExpressTaxFilings support the filing for States that participate in the CF/SF program.

In addition to being shared with the 1099 Forms by the IRS through the CF/SF Program, some States may require direct filings. These direct filings would depend on whether there is a State Withholding or not.

In general, you need to submit your 1099 Forms along with any additional information like Annual Transmittal Form as per the State’s specific requirement. We recommend you to find out from your State’s Department of Revenue for the direct filing requirements.

You can look at Tax Year 2016-updated Table below for a list of States CF/SF & Non-CF/SF, with due dates for specific filing requirements, with details of the Form 1099 series to be filed.
